Canadian province set to launch mobile gambling

Just a year after launching its online gambling enterprise PlayOLG, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is set to launch a new app that will allow punters to gamble on poker, table games and online slots from their smartphones or tablets.

Importantly, the mobile initiative will allow users to play poker against individuals in other Canadian provinces that have licensed online gambling operations, giving a larger and more competitive player pool…something that is not presently possible on the web version of PlayOLG.

OLG spokesperson Ryan Bissonnette told local media over the weekend that PlayOLG has met expectations so far, commenting: “We’re quite pleased with the results,” and revealing that a growing number of Ontarians are buying their lottery tickets online.

OLG’s business plan projected Cdn$89 million in online gaming revenue in PlayOLG’s first year, with a net operating profit of around Cdn$34 million. The corporation has not yet issued final actual numbers.

Last year the Canadian company Plastic Mobile announced that it had been selected to serve as the ‘vendor of record’ on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s upcoming mobile venture (see previous InfoPowa report).

CEO Melody Adhami revealed at the time that the agreement with OLG would run for three years.
