The UK pay TV giant Sky’s betting service on Sky Bet is in the final stages in preparing to launch its new mobile gambling service on the Mkodo platform. The mobile site, scheduled to launch later this month, will provide an extension of Sky’s existing online, interactive television and telephone betting services.

For the launch Sky has partnered with Mkodo, which already provides mobile managed services to the likes of the BBC, Turner Broadcasting and Rank Interactive’s Blue Square.

Pritpal Bains, senior product manager for Sky Bet, said: “The mobile channel is an important part of strategy; hence the strategic decision to upgrade our offering in this area. We selected mkodo because we wanted to work with the pre-eminent supplier in this market. The mkodo team has significant experience in the provision of mobile content and commerce sites. This has been evident with the smooth running of the project and with their professionalism to date. ”

Mkodo inked a partnership deal with Orbis Technology recently, extending that company’s ability to provide bookmakers will the ability to run mobile betting services (see previous InfoPowa report).
